When you have diabetes, it means there’s an excess amount of glucose present in your blood. This can lead to serious complications over time, such as heart disease, nerve damage, kidney damage and more. At Unison, we’re fully committed to getting your condition under control so you can avoid these adverse outcomes – and remain as healthy as possible for years to come.
I came to Unison for help managing my diabetes, and it was the best decision I ever made. With some tweaks to my diet and lifestyle, Dr. Jacobs got me off my insulin and medications – something I didn’t think was even possible. I’m eternally grateful to the entire team at Unison.

Types of Diabetes
There are four different types of diabetes that can affect our Los Angeles patients. At Unison, Dr. Jacobs and his team are proud to offer effective holistic treatments for all of them, including:
Type 1 Diabetes
The less common form of this condition, type 1 diabetes is usually diagnosed in children and young adults. It develops when the body doesn’t produce insulin – a critical hormone that moves glucose from the bloodstream into your body’s cells.
Type 2 Diabetes
Type 2 diabetes is very common and affects more than 3 million Americans each year. It develops when your body doesn’t use insulin properly, so your blood sugar levels become abnormally elevated.
Prediabetes
A diagnosis of prediabetes means that your blood sugar levels are higher than normal, but not quite high enough to qualify as type 2 diabetes. If no changes are made to your diet and lifestyle, prediabetes is likely to become type 2 diabetes over time.
Gestational Diabetes
Gestational Diabetes is a condition in which your blood sugar levels become high during pregnancy.
A holistic approach to treating diabetes
When you’re first diagnosed with diabetes, your physician will likely recommend a number of conventional approaches – all of which are intended to reduce your blood sugar levels so they’re within the normal range. These treatments typically include insulin injections, routine monitoring of your levels and/or oral medications. And while they are very effective for some patients, they may not work as well or they may result in unacceptable lifestyle changes for others.
At Unison, we believe that the best treatment is the one that works for your unique situation. As such, if you’re not happy with your conventional treatments, there may be a place in your regimen for evidence-based, alternative therapies that are proven to help control diabetes – and may even allow you to get off of your medications and insulin for good.
When you arrive at our office for holistic diabetes treatment, we will begin by collecting detailed information about your condition. We will ask you questions about your blood sugar levels, treatment regimen and current diet and exercise plan, before helping you make adjustments to ensure that all of these factors are working for you, not against you.
From there, we will recommend a customized blend of alternative therapies, including hypnosis, yoga, acupuncture, chiropractic treatments, herbal remedies, relaxation exercises and aromatherapy, depending on your unique circumstances. Once you’ve been prescribed a completely personalized holistic treatment plan, you will return to our office periodically so we can monitor your progress and make adjustments as necessary until your diabetes is completely under control and your optimal health is restored.
